Do you recall the Mugithi singer who said that he does not believe in God? His name became a household name amongst many Kenyans because human beings are strongly attached to the belief that there is a deity who controls our lives. The singer, whose name is Gibson Kioi Wairimu, popularly known by his stage name Kioi Junior, has passed away. The news of his death was delivered by his counterparts on Tuesday, 30th April 2024. He comes from a musical family, where his maternal uncle is the popular Benga artist, Kamanda wa Kioi.
Mugithi Singer’s Health
The artist was undergoing treatment at the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital following his admission. In an interview in 2020, Kioi Junior hit headlines when he said that all he needed was proof that either God or Satan existed. He went ahead and claimed that faith is ignorance and that people should not lie to themselves that superior beings existed. In the interview, the singer posited, “I live as if there is no God, and I don’t think people should lie to themselves.”

Did the Mugithi Singer Predict his Death?
In his last post, the singer said that everyone will eventually die. While mourning the death of South African artist Zahara, the singer wrote, “Rest in peace, Zahara. Your extraordinary guitar skills will live on with our daughters. It’s nothing to cry about because soon we’ll be holding each other in the darkest of rooms… #SeeYouInTheDark.”
Religious Beliefs
Kioi Junior was an atheist and he never shied away from speaking his mind. In one of his posts, he said that it was ironic how religious people especially Christians, kept telling him how much they cared about his soul and how they didn’t want him to go to hell when he died. He wondered why they cared so much about his afterlife yet they never bothered to check if he was hungry or sick. Though we all know that death is inevitable, many religious people will tie his death to his atheistic beliefs.
