If there is something that Westerners love doing, then it is keeping the memory of each moment, whether it is sad or joyous. I once watched a very nice family drama series called This is Us, which is acted in a family setup. It tells the story of the Pearson family through the years, and one thing that characterised the series is the continuous recording of the events in the form of videos and pictures.
Analog to Digital
As an individual or a family person, a camera should be part of your recipe so that you can take photographs, and record videos of events that excite or make you sad. It is through this that we can tell our future generations beautiful stories of our past. In the olden generation, old people, especially grandmothers and grandfathers assembled their children and grandchildren and told them history.
The young children sat around the fireplace at night to hear the stories narrated by their grandparents. In the same manner, they were able to pass it on to the future generations. This called for a strong memory and a good storyteller. Not every one of us is a good storyteller nor are all of us good at memorising stories. On that note, it is easier to have these memories recorded on a disk than to pass them over to our children. Some people, love writing so they document these stories in books and personal websites.
Family Album
When growing up, we all looked forward to the Christmas holidays, because it was a moment when parents took their children shopping. Besides the nice delicacies of the moment, the occasion was hyped by putting on new clothes to mark the day. I recall wearing Savco and Tokyo trousers, and the trendy t-shirts that we wore to commemorate the birth of Christ. To us, it was all about the footwear and the clothing. In the village, we had cameramen who took photos, who took two weeks to get you the hard copy. The photos were kept in a family album which could still be useful today but they have long been replaced. Digital platforms such as Google Photos, dropbox, and Microsoft one drive are now commonly used.
Moments of Memory
Do you remember when you first made your first step as a young kid? What about when you hit your first milestone for instance winning a lottery, your wedding day, your graduation or your first birthday celebration? Was it recorded in video or photograph or a book? Most probably, most people have records of their graduation ceremonies, weddings, and birthdays, yet they fail to record the other important progress in their lives. Though the common denominator in life is humanity, we should also strive to keep memories of our times on Earth. Make merry, Enjoy, have fun, and record everything.
