The court finally pronounced the judgement of the murder case involving former citizen TV news anchor Jackie Maribe and her boyfriend Joseph “Jowie” Irungu today. Authorities have charged the two for allegedly killing businesswoman Monica Kimani in an apartment in Nairobi. The human rights activists and the deceased family members feared the outcome of the incident that happened in 2018 since it entered the corridors of justice.

Jowie’s Witnesses Inconsistency

The families of the two accused persons will never forget Friday, 9th February. As one family celebrated the other remained in a somber mood. This is after the high court judge Lady Justice Grace Nzioka ruled that Mr Irungu was guilty of the offence. She further claimed that the prosecution had provided sufficient evidence to implicate “Jowie”. The inconsistency of Jowie’s statement was contradicting and that strengthened the prosecution’s case. Jowie was further accused of impersonating someone else using a stolen identification card.

The judge determined that Maribe’s charges in court were not appropriate, despite her accountability and guilt for providing false information about the murder investigation.

The court cancelled Jowie’s bond and he will remain behind bars as he awaits sentencing on March 8, 2024. Watch the judgment here. Visit our blog and featured sections and read more insightful content. Click the button below to share your story with us
