Girl-Child Empowerment is a good thing but what we see out here puts a black mark on the whole concept. Some people might argue that it all boils down to one’s morality and how they have been brought up. To most of us, a baby girl is an answered prayer, a gift that brings joy to the family. It’s always a joy raising girls and interacting with them through all their stages in life. As much as we love our daughters and sisters, let’s call out the bad influences and behaviours likely to affect their good mannerisms.
Early marriages, female genital mutilation, and unequal access to education are some of the things that prompted the girl-child empowerment movement. In line with that, the unfairness in the job market also came out strongly amongst the frontrunners of this concept. It was and still is a good thing because we have seen the reduction of these societal ills that faced women. As much as the olden days and “bad” cultural practices devalued women, it had its positives. The intentions of empowering the girls are good because it aims to promote an inclusive and prosperous society. As much as we have realised this, did inclusivity imply having our girls flock to the night clubs?
How it Used to Be Before “Girl-Child-Empowerment”
In society back then, the woman was the homemaker, whereas the man catered for the needs of the family. At no single point did we see women going to work to fend for their families. The girl-child empowerment has played a huge role in bringing up lazy men. Men no longer push themselves because they believe an empowered woman is equally up to the task and should take part in supporting the family.

Altercation
It is not rare nowadays to see women throwing tantrums and being in altercations in situations that would otherwise be solved amicably. In a video doing rounds on social media, a woman disrespects a police officer and is heard demanding respect. Of course, everyone deserves to be respected but you cannot force people to force you. You earn it! From the conversation, she sounds like a very connected person because she is heard saying, “Unajua naweza turn around.” She even goes ahead and hits the camera of a guy taking the video during the altercation. Here is the link to the video. Watch this and the other one in this article and tell me whether it is a result of the Girl-Child Empowerment.
Night Clubs
A young lady is seen in another video doing rounds on social media platforms. The lady, who appears to be very drunk, is dancing provocatively but surprisingly the intended audience is not even concerned. These things are not only happening in Kenya but the world over. Check out another video of a nightclub in Ghana. A few weeks ago, another video made rounds showing a lady making out at a night club with man without any shame, and in another event, a guy is seen sucking a lady’s breasts and spitting out brest milk.
