I talked to a friend of mine who lost everything. They had a business premise in the Mradi area and he was in a very sombre mood. After losing her job last year, she used the few savings she had to start a car wash business and an eatery where they were operating with the husband. Unfortunately, all that is burnt down now. Several other people according to the news reports claimed losses of millions of shillings as a result of the gas explosion.

A lady who was interviewed said that she lost goods worth close to half a million. The houses within the neighbourhood were burnt down, and the vehicles also went down in flames. Some of these vehicles were taxis, and the houses were a lifetime investment of the people. The gas explosion not only caused a distraction in the lives of the residents of Nyayo estate and Mradi village in Embakasi, but it also affected their livelihood. Businesses were burnt down, potential customers lost their lives, and the ones who survived were in hospitals, the area is chaotic and the coming few days will see many people vacate the area.
