There is a saying in Swahili that says, “Tenda wema nenda zako.” This is easily translated to English as “do good and go.” In essence, it calls for humanity to prevail, without making a big fuss over it. Over the last few years, Arsenal fans in Kenya have engaged in charity activities. These activities include visits to children’s homes, prisons, and the home for the elderly. The fanbaes which has one umbrella body under the name, Arsenal Kenya has branches in every county. Some of the branches include Nairobi, Eldoret, Kisumu, Turkana, Ukambani (UK), Coast, Nakuru, and Kisii branches among others.

One thing that characterises this fanbase is their calendar of activities which outlines the activities. There is a prayer week, where Arsenal fans fellowship in different denominations and religious gatherings donning the Arsenal jersey. The fans group has charity visits to children’s homes, homes for the elderly, and charity matches. The charity match helps raise funds to support the group’s initiatives.

In 2019, like-minded individuals from Londiani came together and formed the Londiani Arsenal fans group. The objective is to mobilize resources to help in charity events. The group has managed to visit the two children’s homes within Londiani; Kilon, and Bethel faith home. The group pays tuition fees for bright needy students within Londiani and its environs. This year a student from Chepseon Complex Secondary benefitted from the kitty.

The Model

The group adopted a model that was friendly to all the members. Every month, each member contributes a minimum amount of Kes. 200, but the contribution can also be in kind. During the 2023 visit to the Bethel faith home, the group received donations from the Molo and Chepseon business community. Since its inception, the Londiani business community has been at the forefront of supporting the initiative. The community supports the initiative through cash, giving in kind, and being part of charity walks and matches among others. Arsenal fans Londiani also organizes monthly, and mid-monthly challenges to mobilise the resources.
